Berry Nice

This Sunday, Miss J, the Mister and Friends S and G will travel to Oxnard, for the California Strawberry Festival .

Mr. J is always saying he wants to do new and different things, and for some random reason, food fests seem to be it lately.

Last September, Miss J and Miss G drove to Ojai for the Annual Tomato & Harvest Festival . It was fine. There was shopping and good wine beforehand and tasty tomato dishes for dinner. Miss J admits though that the atmosphere was a bit rich 'n white for her taste. At least there was live music.

Before that, the Fest-y Foursome attended the Port of Los Angeles Lobster Fest. Boy, is Miss J glad that wasn’t her suggestion. That was the Festival of Ass. When you go to a Lobster Fest, and they’re serving fake butter, friends, you know you are not in for a treat. Even the crafts were ass. Hey, lady! The word “craft” implies that the wares were hand-crafted by the person selling them. FYI, peeling away the “Made in China” sticker from your knick-knacks doesn’t count as hand-crafting. Oh, well, these things are bound to be hit or miss, aren’t they?

For all Miss J knows, the Strawberry Festival may earn a big raspberry. She's never been before so she has no idea. Let's cross our fingers that there will be delicious berry treats and amusing berry chotchkes.

Miss J wonders if there will be strawberry jewelry for sale...

If nothing else, The Fest-y Four will leave with some scrumptious berries. Mr. S has already promised (hmmm- has he? Or is it that Miss J, uh, promised FOR him?) to make strawberry ice cream. Sure, Miss J can make strawberry ice cream, too. But Mr. S's is far superior and much less labor-intensive for Miss J.

Will Strawberry Girl be there? And if so, can we cover her in whip cream and call her Strawberry Shortcake? Mr. J would like that. Berry much.

I used to live in L.A. and I went to grad school in Santa Barbara. On the way to and fro, I always stopped in Oxnard to get berries. Yummy! Have you ever gone to Harry's Berries at the Santa Monica farmers market? Delcious!!:-)

*raising hand* I have a strawberry necklace! Ooh, what I would give for strawberry ice cream RIGHT NOW! I haven't had that in years but now I need it.
